San Francisco 49ers vs Minnesota Vikings

These two teams won’t be able to escape the spotlight all season simply for how they handled their starting quarterbacks.

The 49ers went out and acquired Jimmy Garoppolo from the Patriots for a second round pick. After five games in which Garoppolo went 5-0 , the team felt it was best to give him a massive payday in the form of  a five-year deal worth $137.5 million. That averages out to $27 million a year for a quarterback who played just over a fourth of the season.

While the hype for Jimmy G has been around since his draft day, it remains to be seen if the payday is worth its weight.

On the other side of the field is Kirk Cousins, the only player to receive a fully guaranteed contract for its size. While some may argue that Cousins was deserving of the contract, his stats have been nothing more than average.

His record over the last three years as a full-time starter show 24 wins, 25 losses and 1 tie. His passing yards and touchdown to interception ratio haven’t been a cause for concern and his passer rating was at his lowest last year with a pretty solid 93.9. The thing about Cousins is he may not have anything special about him which might cause frustration for a guy who has a fully guaranteed contract.

The winner of this matchup could be the start to one fan bases cheering and the others starting to question the choices that their front office made.
