NFL Pro Bowl: First-Timer Projections For All 32 Teams
By Erik Lambert
Carolina Panthers
Christian McCaffrey spent his rookie year acting as part of a 1-2 punch in the Carolina Panthers offense. Jonathan Stewart was the primary runner while he served as the teams’ biggest receiving threat out of the backfield. Can’t say it didn’t work because the two combined for over 1,800 total yards and 14 touchdowns. However, things are set to change. Stewart is gone, leaving in free agency. Now McCaffrey is the primary guy in the backfield.
Together with the arrival of veteran offensive coordinator Norv Turner, the chances favor him having a big year. Turner has done great work with backs like Emmitt Smith, LaDainian Tomlinson, and Adrian Peterson among others. He likes to use the running back as an extension of the quarterback, which actually serves McCaffrey’s particular talents perfectly. If they look to get him more touches this year, the results could be explosive.
