Nose tackles always have a hard time getting attention in the NFL. This is because the nature of their position doesn’t really stand out due to lack of stat production. It’s so easy to miss what can make them so valuable. Upon watching the film one realizes a good nose tackle can be crucial to the success of a defense. They tend to shut off running lanes up the middle and command attention from interior blocks, easing the workload of the pass rushers further outside.
Kenny Clark took a huge step in that direction last year for the Green Bay Packers. Not only did he make 55 tackles, he also produced 4.5 sacks and forced two fumbles. It was a major jump from his rookie season. The best part is life is about to get even easier. The Packers signed veteran defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson. Together with Mike Daniels, Clark will be flanked by two rock solid players, allowing him much more freedom to do his thing in the middle.
