team. 36. . Running Back, NFL Draft. . Rashaad Penny.

A couple of the picks during the 2018 NFL Draft were surprising, including the Seahawks taking San Diego State running back Rashaad Penny. Seattle desperately needed a running back after Russell Wilson led the team with 586 yards on the ground, but Penny wasn’t the guy most analysts projected.

Production wise, Penny pulled all the stops in college. He rushed for 2,248 yards and 23 touchdowns in his final season for the Aztecs and his 4.46 speed certainly helped his case for being a first-round pick.

Seattle hasn’t had a 1,000-yard rusher since Marshawn Lynch in 2014, who had four consecutive seasons with at least 1,200 rushing yards. Considering the Seahawks hole at running back, Penny is their most important addition when it comes to balancing the offense and protecting Russell Wilson.
