Richard Sherman. . team. 42. . Cornerback, Free Agency.

The 49ers finished out the 2017 season on a stretch of games without a loss that has fans giddy over the future.

The fans were even giddier this offseason after Jimmy Garoppolo was signed to a monster contract extension and John Lynch went out and picked up former division rival Richard Sherman.

Sherman is coming back from an Achilles injury but provides the 49ers with a shutdown cornerback and an elite defensive player when healthy.

The back end of their defense desperately needs someone like him.

Sherman can still play at a high level and in combination with Ahkello Witherspoon can help give the Niners a big, athletic, ball-hawking duo at corner.

This could be a major difference maker for them.
