To put it simply, Sammy Watkins is the Chiefs’ biggest offseason acquisition because he has to be.

The Chiefs jettisoned Alex Smith after some very good yet simultaneously disappointing seasons, and are moving forward with former first-round pick Patrick Mahomes.

Mahomes excels getting the ball deep downfield and Watkins has the potential to be a very dangerous mismatch for defenses with so much attention going to Tyreek Hill.

Watkins signed with the Chiefs for a lot more than he’s proven he’s worth in terms of being able to stay healthy and produce at a consistently high level, but his skills might just fit perfectly with the new-look Chiefs’ offense.

This group has so much dynamic speed and athleticism, it’ll be hard for teams to keep everyone covered.

Watkins has a chance to really re-emerge in 2018.
