Los Angeles Chargers

. S. San Diego Chargers. Glen Edwards . 17. player. 13

Glen Edwards is used to being forgotten. Here he was helping the Pittsburgh Steelers win two Super Bowls in the mid-1970s and going to two Pro Bowls, yet his name is rarely mentioned about those teams. It was more of the same when he got to San Diego, overshadowed by their history-making offense led by Dan Fouts and company.

Truth be told the Chargers defense in those days was really bad. A primary reason that team failed to win a Super Bowl. However, they had a lot of success and it was because of guys like Edwards who managed to produce in difficult circumstances. Nothing need more be said about his impact than this.

The Chargers advanced to the AFC championship in both 1980 and 1981. In both of the games they had to win to reach it, Edwards had a combined three interceptions. He picked off Buffalo twice in the 1980 divisional playoff to preserve a 20-14 win. Then he had a big interception in the 1981 Epic in Miami, helping survive the Dolphins 41-38.

The guy made plays when he needed to make them. Not many other Chargers defenders in that era did the same.
