Even the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles have players who can breakout in 2018 coming off their championship run

Coming off their first Super Bowl the Philadelphia Eagles largely return their starting core and some key reserves. Carson Wentz looks to be healthy and set to start week one after tearing his ACL last season, and Nick Foles is coming back as the Super Bowl MVP.

Here are five Philadelphia Eagles who have a chance to breakout as they defend their title.

After curiously releasing Mychal Kendricks the day Paul Worrilow tore his ACL the Eagles are expected to have an open competition for the WILL linebacker job.

Second year safety turned linebacker Nathan Gerry and veteran free agent signee Corey Nelson are the lead candidates for the job.

Gerry, the 184th overall pick out of Nebraska in 2017, played 48 games at Nebraska as a defensive back. He made 273 tackles with 19 for loss, along with 13 interceptions and 19 pass deflections.

Last season Gerry was waived during the trim down to 53 players and signed on the practice squad while he transitioned to linebacker. He appeared in 10 games and started one, but played primarily on special teams.

Now, he’s set to earn a starting job for the reigning Super Bowl champions.
