#3:  Olin Kreutz (New Orleans Saints)

One can only imagine how heartbroken Olin Kreutz was in 2011. He’d just got done helping the Bears reach the NFC championship game. He was an established leader in their locker room and had gone to six Pro Bowls during a long period of superb play as their starting center. Then he decided to leave after turning down a one-year deal worth $4 million.

Instead, he chose to sign with the New Orleans Saints, though his reasoning couldn’t have been money since they got him for virtually the same offer the Bears made. Was it a desire to play with a better quarterback like Drew Brees? Who knows. Kreutz played four games and then abruptly chose to retire, citing a loss of passion for the game. It was clear not playing in Chicago had affected him. Just a month of wearing black and gold helped him reach that conclusion.
