The Cowboys are going to have an open competition at the tight end position after the retirement of Jason Witten and the departure of James Hanna this offseason, the two players who led the team at this position in receptions last season.

One player who could surprise some people is 2017 rookie free agent acquisition Blake Jarwin, whose college career at Oklahoma State included some fairly modest numbers.

He caught 41 career passes for 616 yards and five touchdowns but showed off some nice athletic ability at the Oklahoma State pro day.

During the 2017 season, the Cowboys had to make room on their 53-man roster for Jarwin, who was initially signed to the practice squad, since their division rival Philadelphia Eagles were trying to poach him away.

Jarwin right now is a question mark for the Cowboys, but he’s got talent and he’s also got coaches raving about his offseason work. With an opening for the starting tight end job, Jarwin could break out.
