The San Francisco 49ers are the en vogue pick for breakout team of 2018, but which players will help them achieve that?

In short order, John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan have put together a very interesting roster with some players capable of blossoming into stars in 2018.

Here’s a look at their top five breakout candidates…

5. Adrian Colbert, S

Playing in 14 games with six starts in 2017, rookie seventh-round pick Adrian Colbert out of Miami gave the 49ers confidence for the future at the position and allowed them to move on from Eric Reid in free agency.

Colbert racked up 32 total tackles with two forced fumbles in 2017 with five pass breakups.

He showed his excellent range and hard-hitting ability in a limited sample size, and really out-grew his pre-draft evaluation quickly.

Nobody really knew much about him prior to his running a 4.40 at the Miami pro day, and he went from a size/speed flier to a starter on one of the hottest teams in the NFL in a matter of months.

Paired with Jaquiski Tartt, Colbert can help give the 49ers one of the top young safety duos in the NFL.
