. The 1941 Chicago Bears. 4. team. 57. .

The Chicago Bears were the toast of the NFL in the 1940s, the NFL’s first true dynasty that won four NFL championships in seven seasons. This despite having much of their roster depleted by the demands of World War II. Still, before that misfortune occurred fans got to see just how incredible that group George Halas put together really was in 1941.

To understand how far the Bears were above the rest of the league that year, understand that they scored 396 points. That may not sound like a lot today, but back then the next closest team in the league were the Packers who scored 258. The Bears scored 138 more points than the second-best offense in the NFL that season. Bananas.

This, in turn, overshadowed a defense that forced 54 turnovers in just 13 games while boasting the #1 run defense in the league. Quarterback Sid Luckman threw nine touchdown passes and also had three interceptions on defense. The real MVP of that season though was running back George McAfee. He was the team’s leading rusher with 474 yards and five touchdowns while also having six interceptions on defense.

The team was not only deep but remarkably balanced. In the playoffs, they were at their best. They outscored the Packers and Giants 70-23 and were never really threatened in either game, winning their second-straight NFL championship.
