6. team. 9. . . . The 2016 Chicago Cubs

Why is the 2016 Chicago Cubs one of the best teams in Chicago Sports history? Well, the obvious answer is that they were the team that broke the longest championship drought in sports history. Duh.

What made this team so enjoyable to watch was the fact they had a great balance of youth and veteran talent. Each player contributed in their own way that showcased their skillsets to their fullest extent. As everybody remembers the Cubs were led by Anthony Rizzo and National League MVP Kris Bryant at the plate with Jon Lester and to a lesser extent closer Aroldis Chapman (after the trade with the Yankees).

However, some people may not remember names like Kyle Hendricks, Dexter Fowler, David Ross, and even though he didn’t contribute at the plate, Jason Heyward too. This team also had a manager in Joe Maddon who knew his team was the best in baseball. He instilled confidence in them. Showed them that they could win, and they did.

In truth what makes this team one of the best ever was that they were just that “A team.” Each player had a role, understood what it was, and worked together as a unit to reach the ultimate goal. They were the first team to crack 100 runs scored in a season since 1935 and first to give up less than 60 since 1945. They were truly special in every sense of the word.
