2018 NFL Power Rankings: Biggest QB Teases For All 32 Teams
By Erik Lambert
People dubbed him the next generation of quarterbacks. Kordell Stewart was a marvel of his time. He had the arm to play quarterback but also the speed, quickness, and agility of a wide receiver. That was the reason his teammates took to calling him “Slash.” He could play almost any position he wanted but felt he had a future at quarterback. For a time it looked like he did.
In 1997 he took the Pittsburgh Steelers to the playoffs and led four comebacks in the 4th quarter. Defenses didn’t need long to adjust though. Stewart developed a problem with reading defenses, leading to a slew of interceptions. This is characterized by his 2-8 ratio of touchdowns to picks. Despite making a Pro Bowl in 2001, he never turned a corner and was supplanted by Tommy Maddox a year later.
