2018 NFL Power Rankings: Biggest QB Teases For All 32 Teams
By Erik Lambert
The 1980s were considered largely a dead period for Kansas City Chiefs football. A big reason for this was their ability to settle the quarterback position. Bill Kenney was at the center of this mess. He was inconsistent his first three years, popping in and out of the starting lineup. Matters were only made worse in 1983. The Chiefs drafted Todd Blackledge in the 1st round but Kenney responded with his one and only Pro Bowl season.
That seemed to muddy the waters further. Chiefs coaches would insert and remove him as the starter even when he was showing signs of playing well. Needless to say the Chiefs didn’t respond well to this flip-flopping, unable to put together a winning season until 1986 where they were promptly trounced by the Jets 35-15. Kenney had just 97 yards passing in that game. It will never be known what would’ve happened had Kansas City committed to him fully.
