2018 NFL Power Rankings: Biggest QB Teases For All 32 Teams
By Erik Lambert
The Jacksonville Jaguars were trying to find their replacement for Mark Brunell in the early 2000s. They seemed to find their man in 2003, grabbing Byron Leftwich with the 7th overall pick in the draft out of Marshall. He seemed to look like the real deal. He was a big guy with a live arm and athletic potential. It looked like they had something the first few years too.
In 2005 Leftwich went 8-3 as a starter, throwing 15 touchdowns to just five interceptions and an 89.3 quarterback rating. Expectations were he’d break out in 2006. Instead he made it just six games, went 3-3 and threw seven touchdowns to five interceptions. He was permanently replaced by a rising David Garrard after that and became a journeyman backup the rest of his career.
