2018 NFL Power Rankings: Biggest QB Teases For All 32 Teams
By Erik Lambert
He’s not only the greatest tease in Detroit Lions history, he might be the greatest of all-time. Mitchell first surfaced in 1993 with the Dolphins as a backup to Dan Marino. He played well enough to get the team to a winning record and the Lions decided to make him their starter. He struggled his first year but broke out in a big way with 4,338 yards and 32 touchdowns the next.
However, his ugly playoff performance (4 interceptions) was the first indication that he may not be cut out for the spotlight. He regressed in 1996 to mediocrity, resurged in 1997 to make the playoffs again before bottoming out after that. Mitchell was the last hope of Lions fans to get Barry Sanders a ring. To see it fizzle out slowly like that was tough to swallow.
