2018 NFL Power Rankings: Biggest QB Teases For All 32 Teams
By Erik Lambert
Mike Shanahan had a reputation for elevating quarterbacks during his long run in Denver. Perhaps his greatest feat was turning Jake Plummer into an effective player with the Broncos. This after an erratic run in Arizona with the Cardinals. For a time Shanahan’s work paid off. Plummer looked like a potential star in 2005, leading the team to a 13-3 record and AFC championship appearance.
The next year he struggled with more interceptions than touchdowns, driven in large part by the knowledge he would be replaced regardless by new 1st round pick Jay Cutler. Sure enough, after 11 games he found the bench and the Cutler era began. The Broncos were 7-4 at the time. They wouldn’t have a winning record again until 2012 when they signed Peyton Manning.
