2019 NFL Draft: Five overrated prospects heading into the season
3. Justin Herbert, QB, Oregon
The NFL is a traits-based business, and Justin Herbert has traits teams covet in spades
Herbert is very well built and well proportioned with a combination of athleticism and arm talent, but through two college seasons at Oregon, he has given us just a 16-game sample size.
Now, a smaller sample size doesn’t necessarily mean Herbert is overrated, but as of right now, this is a player that’s being talked about as a legitimate candidate for the top overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft and we haven’t even seen what he can do over the course of a full season in college.
What we have seen is pretty impressive, no doubt. Herbert has made some nice throws and put up some very good numbers at Oregon in terms of his touchdown to interception ratio (34 TDs, 9 INTs).
Herbert’s abilities aren’t overrated but at this point, the sample size is too small to say he’s going to be a top-five pick in next year’s draft. Things need to play out on the field.
