#6:  Bradon Weeden (22nd overall, 2012)

It’s unclear what possessed the Cleveland Browns front office when they made this pick. Sure they needed a quarterback and Brandon Weeden had been successful at Oklahoma State, but the guy was already 28-years old by the time the draft started. It’s bad management to invest a 1st round pick in a player who’s five years older than the typical average for draft prospects. The fact that Weeden wasn’t good on the field only made it worse.

#5:  Brady Quinn (22nd overall, 2007)

Maybe the Browns should think about staying away from the 22nd overall pick? Five years before the Weeden debacle, they’d already had a big whiff at that spot. Brady Quinn came in with tons of hype out of Notre Dame. He was a good-looking kid with a big arm. Everything a quarterback should look like. The problem was he had neither the toughness nor processor to handle the NFL.

He struggled to stay healthy during his intermittent time as a starter and when he did plays he proved highly erratic. In fact, a third of his total touchdown production (4) came in one game against the equally bad Detroit Lions in 2009.
