Iowa Hawkeyes TE Noah Fant is creating an unstoppable hype train
Iowa Hawkeyes tight end and 2019 NFL Draft prospect Noah Fant is creating an uncontrollable, unstoppable hype train ahead of the 2018 season…
It’s the football offseason, which is typically when we get fluff statements from coaches and/or articles written about players hyping them up for the upcoming season.
It’s the season for optimism, after all.
The optimism for Iowa Hawkeyes tight end Noah Fant is overflowing at this point, and his hype train has gone from simply being unstoppable to uncontrollable.
Fant looks like a big wide receiver at 6-foot-5, 232 pounds, and his athleticism is off the charts.
He had a breakout year in 2017 with 30 catches for 494 yards (over 16 yards per catch) and a whopping 11 touchdowns.
Fant’s usage in the Iowa offense seemed a lot more prominent than it actually was because of the fact that once every third time he caught a pass it went for a touchdown.
Fant provided the Hawkeyes’ offense with a dynamic big-play threat in the passing game, and he’s set for an even bigger role in 2018.

So what do we mean the hype train has gotten out of control?
Well, Fant is entering his junior season with Iowa, so he is eligible for the 2019 NFL Draft. According to Todd McShay of ESPN, if Fant were to leave early for the 2019 NFL Draft, he could be a top 12 draft pick. Matt Miller of Bleacher Report also ranked Fant the top tight end prospect in the country heading into the 2018 season.
Everyone knew Fant was a great athlete based on his game tape at Iowa, but I don’t think anyone could have expected just how freakish of an athlete Fant is.
He recorded a 42.1-inch vertical jump this offseason, which would rank among some of the best all-time at the NFL Scouting Combine.
The Hawkeyes need to make sure Fant’s athleticism translates to on-field success. They need to make sure he’s a featured piece in the offense and get him more targets so his athletic ability can be more than just an occasional wow factor.
Fant is developing into a bona fide star at his position. His breakout season in 2017 will be just the beginning.
