4. Seattle has money

Unless the Seahawks are trying to keep a large amount of cap space available for a star we’ve never heard of, they have cash to spend.

According to Spotrac and Over The Cap, the Seahawks have over $11 million in cap space looking towards training camp. They’ve already secured first round pick Rashaad Penny and seven other draft picks to rookie deals, but still have to pay second round Rasheem Green.

More from NFL Hot Takes

That rookie deal for Green will be approximately $3.4 million with the money virtually set with exception to the guarantees.

That still leaves room for the Seahawks to give Thomas a substantial raise this year and beyond.

Over The Cap has Seattle with approximately $66 in cap for next offseason with several players beyond Thomas becoming free agents. Decisions must be made on K.J. Wright, Tyler Lockett, Duane Brown, and Frank Clark among others.

Beyond that, Russell Wilson, Jarran Reed, and Bobby Wagner are free agents in 2020.

Regardless, there is room to pay Thomas, and he knows it.
