5. Alex Smith

The Redskins finally have their quarterback. He is the perfect fit for the Redskins for several reasons.

He’s smart, he doesn’t turn the ball over, he really wants to be in Washington, and he’s not Kirk Cousins.

He also had the highest QB rating in the NFL last year while connecting on more deep throws than any other quarterback in the league. He did this while throwing just five interceptions and fumbling twice.

By contrast, Cousins threw 13 interceptions and fumbled 13 times. Suffice to say, Alex Smith is exactly who the Redskins need under center.

6. Talent

NFL teams spend millions of dollars and thousands of hours scouting college players. So it means something when a guy is selected in the early part of the draft.

It means the chances are very high that the guy is a really good football player. Games are won or lost on the field but it sure helps to have top-tier talent. This year the Redskins projected starters include eight first-round draft picks, five second rounders, five third rounders, a fourth, two fifths and a sixth.

Not too shabby considering just three years ago the ‘Skins’ starting lineups boasted four undrafted free agents and two seventh-round picks.
