NFL: One breakout star for each team in the 2018 season
Seattle drafted Nick Vannett 96th overall more on the potential than production displayed at Ohio State. Five of his six career touchdowns came in 2014, and he never had more than 20 receptions in a season. However, his 6’6 frame and performance at the NFL Combine pushed him into day two territory.
Vannett hasn’t been “the guy” for Seattle at tight end with Jimmy Graham and Luke Willson always listed ahead on the depth chart. Now, both have departed Seattle and the Seahawks project to start Vannett with veteran Ed Dickson. Will Disley was drafted in the fourth round, and former Texas quarterback Tyronne Swopes, also known as the 18-wheeler, returns as an undrafted free agent.
With Graham and Jermaine Kearse gone the Seahawks could turn Vannett into their primary red zone target despite him having just one touchdown reception.
