Baker Mayfield, Cleveland Browns

NFL Network’s Steve Wyche said people in the Cleveland Browns’ organization were impressed with his ‘playbook retention and leadership’ at rookie minicamp, two qualities that you certainly want in a young quarterback prospect.

That was something that impressed me about Mayfield at the Senior Bowl as well. He was so quick to adapt to new surroundings and a new style of offense, and he wasn’t overly focused on that aspect of the event.

Mayfield knew he had a lot to learn about operating the offense the Broncos had put in place at Senior Bowl practices, but it didn’t hinder him from sprinting from drill to drill, or celebrating with his teammates after a big play, or encouraging fellow quarterbacks after reps.

There are many ways players can exemplify leadership but Mayfield’s fiery attitude and passion for the game are infectious qualities that a team like the Browns desperately need.

This is a good initial report for Mayfield, and I think he has a better than decent chance of being the opening day starter for Cleveland.
