Eric Kush vs. Hroniss Grasu

It seems the Bears are dead set on keeping Cody Whitehair at center and moving second round pick James Daniels to left guard. While a little unexpected, it’s hardly a bad thing. Daniels has played both positions well. It’s also welcome news for the reserves because it leaves a backup slot open at center behind Whitehair, and two men stand out as favorites to fill it.

Hroniss Grasu has to wonder about his future. At the start of 2016, he was the unquestioned starting center. Then he tore his ACL. Whitehair stepped in to replace him and stole the job. Not only that but veteran Eric Kush was added as a free agent and played well. He can also do something Grasu can’t, which is play guard if asked. At the same time, Grasu knows offensive coordinator Mark Helfrich from their time at Oregon together. It’s hard to predict who has the edge.
