NFL Free Agency: Five landing spots for tight end Coby Fleener
New York Jets
Things begin to get interesting with the New York Jets and their issues at the receiver positions. Outside of Jermaine Kearse, New York doesn’t have a veteran pass catcher to work with third-overall pick Sam Darnold. In fact, the Jets receivers are a fairly mixed-bag of players including Robby Anderson, Quincy Enunwa, Andre Roberts, Terrelle Pryor, and Lucky Whitehead.
Devin Smith, Chad Hansen, and Ar’Darius Stewart also return at the wide receiver position with little experience. At tight end, the Jets have Jordan Leggett, who missed his entire rookie season with a knee injury, listed as their starter. Clive Walford is their only veteran in the tight end room backed up by Eric Tomlinson, Bucky Hodges, and rookie Chris Herndon out of Miami.
Fleener, while again an inconsistent receiver, at least brings a respected name to New York as they mentor Darnold. With over $28 million in salary cap space the Jets could certainly afford to give Fleener a look this preseason.
