Which NFL team could bolster their tight end room with free agent Coby Fleener?

Once a redzone weapon for Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis Colts, veteran tight end Coby Fleener is looking for work. The 29-year-old receiver was cut by New Orleans just two years into a five-year deal worth $36 million, and quickly becomes one of the top tight ends on the open market.

Fleener’s six-year career certainly hasn’t been spectacular with no 1,000 yard seasons or double-digit touchdown campaigns. His best year came in 2014 with the Colts with a career-high 774 receivers yards and eight touchdowns. Selected just 33 picks after Luck, Fleener certainly has the talent to contribute on a weekly basis in the NFL.

Here are five teams that could use depth at the tight end position:

Carolina Panthers

Greg Olson is the clear number one tight end in Carolina despite his threats to retire early for a career in broadcasting. Panthers executives recognize the real threat of retirement posed by Olsen, and drafted Indiana’s Ian Thomas in the third round.

Behind the 33-year-old Olsen and rookie Thomas there aren’t many options at tight end in Carolina. Philadelphia and New England each made the Super Bowl with heavy use from their tight ends, and Norv Turner could always use another weapon in his offense.

Don’t mark this landing spot as the number one destination considering Carolina has about $1 million in salary cap space.
