Chicago Bears: The 2018 NFL Draft Report Card
By Erik Lambert
4th Round: Joel Iyiegbuniwe (ILB, Western Kentucky) = C+
The initial reaction by fans was disgust towards this pick. Who from where? What position does he play? All they saw was a kid who didn’t play a position they felt needed addressing from a smaller program with a hard-to-pronounce name and immediately declared it a terrible pick. That’s neither wise nor fair. Looking at the tape, “Iggy” is an impressive athlete for a linebacker with instinct and coverage skills. He has work to do, but the talent is there.
5th Round: Bilal Nichols (DT, Delaware) = B
This was the best pick of Day 3 for Chicago. Nichols may come out of Delaware but he jumps off the screen immediately. He’s a big man but moves so well for his size. He can shoot gaps as an interior pass rusher, showcasing quickness and violent hands to shed blocks. Several times you see him getting held by offensive linemen. He’s also strong, able to take on double teams and stand his ground. He may start out as a backup, but his future could involve more.
6th Round: Kylie Fitts (EDGE, Utah) = B-
The Bears needed an edge rusher badly. It feels like they may have waited too long but they still got somebody in Kylie Fitts. In 2015 this kid looked like the next big thing with seven sacks. Then he was beset by multiple injuries the past two years that slowed his progress. He has size and length. When he’s healthy he showcases good burst and athleticism too. Whether he can stay healthy is the big question, but he should be able to help.

7th Round: Javon Wims (WR, Georgia) = C+
Give Chicago credit. They were committed to the end to give Mitch Trubisky as many weapons as possible. Javon Wims won’t be a factor in 2018 outside of depth and special teams. There are too many names ahead of him. That said, he’s got a 6’3″ frame, strong hands, decent speed, can jump and shows good body control. What he isn’t is polished. Everything from his route running to his blocking need lots of work. This is a block of clay that might be moldable.
