Late revelations have some questioning Josh Allen heading into the 2018 NFL Draft

Controversial tweets sent by Wyoming quarterback Josh Allen as a high schooler have surfaced hours before the 2018 NFL Draft. Tweets sent as far back as 2012 containing questionable language, including some many deem to be racist, homophobic, and inappropriate, have been plastered across social media in recent hours.

Allen has apologized and spoke with ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith about the tweets, saying they were from a time when he was “young and dumb.” Turning 22 next month, the majority of Allen’s tweets come from when he was 16-years-old in California.

Because of the language contained in the tweets, we will not post or share them. Screenshots of the since-deleted tweets are available on social media.

There are many ways to address this issue if you’re an NFL team looking to draft a quarterback, especially one many deem as the top arm in the draft. Some can chalk the tweet up as a teenager being a teenager and making stupid choices. Others will dig deeper into the messages and see if they truly represent who Allen is as a person.

NFL teams at least have some time to investigate the messages, unlike when Ole Miss tackle Laremy Tunsil had a video tweeted of him minutes before the NFL Draft showing him smoking a bong through a gas mask.

Allen’s actions from years ago are being compared to in NFL compounds to fellow draft prospect Baker Mayfield being tackled by police in college. Again, weigh the situations however you’d like, but the tweets don’t appear to be as damning.

There’s certainly a chance Allen remains the top pick of the Cleveland Browns, New York Jets, or any other team that needs a quarterback. The 21-year-old will have many questions to answer, but thus far he’s being forthright about his actions, regardless of how long ago they were committed.
