The 2018 NFL Draft is going to be wild and crazy as it is, but recent rumors of Baker Mayfield possibly being in play for the top overall pick could make it even crazier.
Projecting the first round of the draft is always an inexact science, but here’s a look at how the first round might turn out with all the rumors floating around.
With just two days left to wait, here’s our latest 2018 NFL mock draft:
Oklahoma. Baker Mayfield. 1. player. 53. The Browns are obviously in a position here where taking a quarterback is a no-brainer, but which quarterback will it be? Right now, it seems like there’s a late hype building for Oklahoma quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Baker Mayfield, who hasn’t been talked about much leading up to this point in regards to this pick. Mayfield has stated he believes he can turn the Browns around, and his attitude combined with NFL-readiness leads me to believe the Browns’ new look front office would love to have him on board.. QB
2. player. 31. The Giants could go a number of directions with this selection. I could see them taking Bradley Chubb, as Dave Gettleman has a history of building in the trenches with his early draft picks. I could also see them taking USC quarterback Sam Darnold as a potential heir to Eli Manning. Ultimately, I think this pick comes down to the player the Giants feel can have the most impact right away, as well as over the long term. That player is Saquon Barkley, who is a freak of an athlete and capable of giving the Giants a tremendous boost offensively right away.. RB. Penn State. Saquon Barkley
USC. Sam Darnold. 3. player. 30. It wouldn’t surprise me to see the Jets pick any of Sam Darnold, Josh Rosen, or Baker Mayfield with this pick. They traded up to number three overall knowing that two picks could possibly go ahead of them, and in this scenario, they get a guy who could just as easily go first overall. Darnold would be brought in to learn for a bit behind Josh McCown, and become the new face of the Jets.. QB
DE. North Carolina State. Bradely Chubb. 4. player. 53. The Browns have a really cool opportunity in this draft. They have the chance to get the top quarterback on their board, as well as the top non-quarterback on their board potentially. Chubb is a phenomenal talent at defensive end, and could pair with Myles Garrett to give the Browns a fearsome duo for years to come.
Josh Allen. 5. player. 16. *TRADE*: Denver Broncos trade 5th overall pick to Buffalo Bills for 12th overall pick, 22nd overall pick, 53rd overall pick, 96th pick, and future 3rd round pick <p> </p> <p>The Buffalo Bills pay the price to move up and get Josh Allen, a big armed, athletic quarterback whose passes can slice through the tough weather conditions he’ll be playing in. Allen isn’t perfect as a prospect, but he could be just the guy the Bills need as their franchise player. This trade scenario allows the Bills to get the 5th overall pick, as well as keep a 2nd round pick and their early 3rd round pick from the Browns. It seems like a high price to pay, but other teams have paid similarly or more to move into the top five selections for a quarterback.</p>. QB. Wyoming
