I’ll admit this a stretch, albeit not an impossible one. This draft is chock full of day one starting caliber talent well into the third round.

In the early part of the second round, there are so many truly outstanding players still available that teams might struggle to justify taking a SS as opposed to a more highly rated player that fills a more pressing need.

I don’t see any of the teams picking before the Skins that have SS as there most significant need. There are some teams however that would love to grab one of the RBs, O-lineman, or wide outs that will be sitting right there in front of them.

With third-round picks, something that Washington lacks this year, the teams in front of the Skins can pick up that Safety in round three. Ronnie Harrison, Marcus Allen, and Quin Blanding are all 6’2, they all weigh 215, and they all run 4.5 40s.

Harrison is the better player but knowing that Blanding and Allen will most likely be there for them a round later might compel some of these teams to go in a different direction early in round two.

Not having a third-round pick this year is crushing for Washington. The kind of quality that will still be on the board will make it difficult to watch as the Chiefs use the pick acquired from the Redskins to choose between a dozen or so players that the Skins would have loved to be able to bring on board.

They will have to repeatedly remind themselves that a third-round pick in this year’s draft would not have gotten them Alex Smith, 2017’s highest rated QB in the NFL.

The Redskins will have to take solace in the fact that they finally got their quarterback. The lack of a third-round pick will also be tempered by the fact that Quenton Nelson and Ronnie Harrison will be donning the burgundy and gold this year.
