The Washington Redskins are ready to take the next step with a new quarterback

Last year the Redskins waited patiently at pick 17 and were handsomely rewarded. They would be well advised to use the same approach this year as the payout could be just as sweet.
By now everyone has heard at least a few times that Quenton Nelson is the best player in the draft. To that I’d say, borrowing a line from Jack Nicholson, “Go sell crazy somewhere else, we’re all stocked up here.”

Aside from the fact that Nelson plays the most undervalued position on offense, a look at some of the names on most big boards would suggest he’s the best player in the draft.

For the sake of argument let’s assume Nelson is better than Saquon Barkley, Bradley Chubb, Minkah Fitzpatrick, Denzel Ward, Tremaine Edwards, Derwin James, and all those quarterbacks. I don’t believe the teams picking before the Redskins are going to pull the trigger on a Guard – not with all the elite level talent that fits so well into some of their more pressing needs.

So whether a team is drafting the best player available or making every war room’s cardinal sin, drafting for need, there is a legitimate chance that Quenton Nelson is still there at 13. Let’s face it; if Jonathan Allen can fall to the Skins at 17, Nelson can certainly drop to them at 13.

That blur you see out of the corner of your eye as soon as the Redskins draft Nelson, Alex Smith will be doing cartwheels across the parking lot. And why not? He’s going to be playing behind one of the best offensive lines in the NFL.
