First Round Frenzy

The Denver Broncos could very well pass on a quarterback with the fifth overall pick. Sorry for tricking you all, but that doesn’t mean they would pass up on a chance to get a quarterback in the first round entirely.

Here’s a crazy scenario I was toying with on Predominantly Orange on Tuesday, that I think has at least some chance of happening. The Broncos are going to get busy making some big time trades…

Trade no. 1

The Buffalo Bills pay a hefty price to move up from 12th to 5th overall to get Josh Allen, in a top five that looks like this:

1. Browns: Sam Darnold
2. Giants: Saquon Barkley
3. Jets: Baker Mayfield
4. Browns: Bradley Chubb
5. Bills (f/DEN): Josh Allen

The reason the Bills pay this hefty price is because other teams, in particular the Arizona Cardinals and Miami Dolphins, could also be looking to move up for the strong-armed Allen.

The Bills would not be granted the luxury of paying ‘market value’ in this case because there would be high demand for the pick.

This would give the Broncos picks 12, 22, 40, 56, 71, 96, and 99 in the top 100.

Here’s how the draft may continue…

6. Colts: Quenton Nelson
7. Buccaneers: Derwin James
8. Bears: Denzel Ward

At this point, the Broncos would be looking to make trade no. 2…

Trade no. 2

The Broncos bump back up from the 12th pick in the first round to the 9th overall pick with the 49ers, giving up their high  third round pick along with a high fourth round pick to do so. The 49ers are going to be comfortable with a couple of players falling to their pick at number 12 overall, so recouping picks in the third and fourth round would be a nice option for them here.

And the first round marches on with the Broncos making UCLA QB Josh Rosen the 9th overall pick in the draft.

The first round marches on…

9. Broncos (f/SF): Josh Rosen
10. Raiders: Roquan Smith
11. Dolphins: Vita Vea
12. 49ers: Tremaine Edmunds
13. Redskins: Derrius Guice
14. Packers: Josh Jackson
15. Cardinals: Calvin Ridley
16. Ravens: Minkah Fitzpatrick
17. Chargers: Justin Reid
18. Seahawks: Jaire Alexander
19. Cowboys: Courtland Sutton
20. Lions: Marcus Davenport
21. Bengals: Da’Ron Payne

Leading us to the Broncos’ second pick in this mock draft scenario…
