Would John Elway and the Denver Broncos really pass on a quarterback with the fifth overall pick?

The answer to that question is ‘yes’, and that may surprise you.

To make a long story short, the Broncos reportedly prefer Baker Mayfield to any quarterback prospect in this year’s draft. Since the Cleveland Browns and New York Giants do not appear set to take him first or second, what’s the big deal?

Won’t Mayfield and his less than 6-foot-5 frame make it to the fifth overall pick?

Right now, that doesn’t seem to be the case.

Most people ‘in the know’ right now are saying that Mayfield is almost a lock to go third overall to the New York Jets, which would leave the Broncos in an interesting scenario.

They would either have Josh Allen and Josh Rosen on the board at pick number five overall, or they could possibly have Sam Darnold and Josh Rosen on the board at number five overall.

There are so many scenarios that have yet to play out that putting a mock draft together at this point is tougher than any Sudoku puzzle I’ve ever done. But what might the Broncos do if the Giants are set on taking Saquon Barkley at pick number two overall, and the Jets want Baker?

Let’s take a look at a possible scenario…
