The hopes for the Chicago Bears in this upcoming NFL draft are a bit mixed in terms of what exactly they desire. Emotions are varied.

Part of them wants a huge quarterback blitz through the first seven picks. As many as four or even five would be huge for them. Why? It increases the odds of a top non-QB player sliding to them at #8, perhaps guard Quenton Nelson or edge rusher Bradley Chubb. Then there’s the other side of the coin. The Bears might instead hope one of the top quarterbacks falls to their spot instead.

This would open up something that growing rumors hint at. A Bears trade down from #8. The logic is easy enough to understand. Chicago still has holes on the roster to fill. Their draft coffers are a bit thin this year, leaving them without a 3rd round pick due to the Mitch Trubisky trade last year. Moving back would make some sense, but common draft logic says only a top QB can net them a decent return.

So is there a name who could open up that opportunity? According to NFL insider Benjamin Allbright, the odds are growing for one in particular.

Josh Rosen could be just what the Bears need

The arguments over Rosen are persistent. Some see him as the best QB prospect in the draft and worthy of the #1 pick. He’s certainly the safest, having intimate knowledge of pro-style offenses. However, two problems remain to some. Rosen has a reputation for being a free-thinker. His focus doesn’t always seem like it’s on football. Sort of an air of entitlement. Like he’s bigger than the game. The other problem is he might already be maxed out, talent-wise. He’s really good but may not be able to become great.

Then again they said the same or even worse things about Tom Brady. Is it any wonder that the Patriots would have interest in Rosen then?

That could be the deciding factor for the Bears. New England has multiple picks in the first two rounds. They’re equipped to move up from #23 overall. If Chicago held the golden ticket to Rosen and made #8 available, it’s possible they would bite. After all, they’re desperate to find a successor to Brady. Everything depends on if this scenario plays out and whether Ryan Pace would act on it.
