1 (3rd overall): Baker Mayfield, QB, Oklahoma

The New York Jets need a quarterback with swagger. They need someone who is going to be able to spit in the face of New York media when appropriate.

Not literally, of course…

Baker Mayfield is one of the most mentally tough players I think I’ve watched in the past five years at the quarterback position. Not only is he confident in his abilities, he doesn’t clam up when he makes a mistake.

And mistakes with Mayfield are rare, anyway.

The Jets brought back Josh McCown for another year, and will essentially be paying him $10 million to mentor Mayfield. According to Johnny Manziel’s testimony of McCown as a leader, this could not be a better situation for Mayfield.

Going into an organization that will love him and afford him the time he needs to develop, as well as an organization that has a player who can teach Mayfield how to be a professional, is absolutely ideal.

Mayfield can handle the pressure of playing in New York. He can handle the pressure of many busts to come before him. He is the ideal fit for the Jets, in my opinion.
