Chicago Bears 2018 Mock Draft: Shifting Towards The Defense

Every significant acquisition made by the Chicago Bears in free agency was on the offensive side of the ball. That paints a clear enough picture.

Everything points towards them being aggressive on defense early in the NFL draft. There’s certainly nothing wrong with that. The unit was great last year but still has a number of holes that haven’t been properly addressed yet. It would be ideal if GM Ryan Pace were able to fix them with young, drafted talent. Something that his predecessors weren’t able to do once they finally reached a high level. How does he go about it this time?

1st Round

player. 57. Eddie Jackson looks like he’s going to be a fixture for the Bears at free safety for a long time. What some people are divided on is the spot next to him. Adrian Amos had a surprising resurgence last year after being benched in favor of veteran Quintin Demps. It’s hard to gauge how the Bears feel about that. Are they convinced he turned a corner or was it more just him taking advantage of a favorable situation? The debate continues to rage. <p>One thing that is not debatable is the talent of Derwin James. The Florida State safety has proven he’s legit at every required point. His game film showcases a versatile defender who can play the deep coverage role or fly downhill to play the run or blow up screens. There is no limit to what he can do on the field and on top of that he’s a reported film junky and locker room leader. This sounds like a Bears type of guy in every way.</p>. S. Florida State.
