Odell Beckham Jr. to the Los Angeles Rams needs to happen

The possibility of an Odell Beckham Jr. to the Rams trade needs to become a reality. These two teams can — and should — get together on a deal…

After all of the moves the Los Angeles Rams have made this offseason, it seems like adding one more big personality in Odell Beckham Jr. to the mix would be a no-brainer.

The way the Giants’ relationship with Beckham seems to have soured would make a trade out of New York also seem like a no-brainer.

So, isn’t the possibility of these two teams coming together on a deal a no-brainer?

It sure seems like it.

There have been rumors flying around that the Rams and Giants have discussed — even at a very basic level — the idea of a trade involving Odell Beckham Jr. and draft picks. The price tag for a player of Beckham’s caliber, even with just one year remaining on his rookie contract, would be very high, and rightly so.

When healthy, Beckham Jr. has arguably been the best wide receiver in the entire league. The Giants are coming off of a very bad season, and Beckham has threatened to sit out if he doesn’t become the highest paid receiver in the NFL. Are the Giants going to make that happen?

The Rams have the cap space to add Beckham with Jared Goff still in the middle of his rookie contract. They are poised to make a big run at the NFC West for the next few years with their roster as it’s currently constructed, but Beckham would take them to another level.

Last offseason, the Rams traded for Sammy Watkins of the Buffalo Bills. That was a nice move and helped the Rams’ offense, and they even wanted to bring Watkins back into the fold, but he ended up signing a mega-money deal with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Obviously the Rams lack a big time playmaker at the receiver position right now. They have Robert Woods, Cooper Kupp, Tavon Austin, and a few other guys that will contribute like Josh Reynolds and Pharaoh Cooper.

A player like Beckham would give the Rams a true number one target in the passing game, and make their offense almost indefensible. The Giants would require at least two first round picks from the Rams and while that price sounds incredibly high on paper, it makes little sense for the Rams not to do it.

The Rams have made huge moves in free agency to shore up holes on their roster. They are always aggressive on the trade market. They have a rookie contract at quarterback for the next three years. There’s no reason they won’t be able to fill holes on their roster through free agency over the next two years, even when they (hypothetically) pay Odell Beckham Jr.

If you were to give up two first round picks, including their first round pick in 2018, you’re talking about giving up what — pick number 23 overall this year, and a late 20s pick again next year?

That seems like an easy decision for the Rams, and a very favorable situation for the Giants. Not only do you get the Beckham contract off the books going forward, you also get great value for a player who may not fit the direction of your team.

At this point, I would be shocked if a trade between these two teams wasn’t agreed upon, because both teams seem like they would be motivated to get a deal done.
