Based on what they were able to accomplish in free agency over the past couple weeks, it looks like the Chicago Bears have a clear agenda for the draft.

That will involve a lot of attention directed towards the defense. This isn’t a bad thing at all. Several defensive positions this year have a wealth of talent available that can help both as instant starters and quality depth. It’s just a matter of finding guys who are the right fit. Well as it turns out the Bears may not have to look too far for their solutions.

1st Round

1. player. 57. The Chicago Bears are simultaneously in a great and a bad position in terms of the draft this year. That may sound strange to say but here it goes. It’s looking like Quenton Nelson and Bradley Chubb are the two ideal prospects for them to pick this year but at #8 it’s unlikely either will be available. At the same time a rush of quarterbacks is expected early, so they’ll still have a large selection of non-QB talent at their fingertips.
In such cases, Ryan Pace always says he likes to go for the best players available. They are almost certain to zero in on Roquan Smith. This was the best player on one of the best defenses in the country last season. Smith is a heat-seeking missile who always finds the football and can chase down almost any ball carrier. He’s an intelligent player who embraces his role as a defensive captain. Both the talent and character line up perfectly with the Bears.
. ILB. Georgia. Roquan Smith
