A groundbreaking trade has been executed in the NFL Draft between the Jets and Colts

The New York Jets have traded up from the sixth overall pick to the third overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, likely to find their franchise quarterback.

Indianapolis will receive the sixth overall pick, the 37th overall pick, the 49th overall pick, and New York’s second overall pick next year. The move not only allows the Jets to finally find a franchise quarterback, but for the Colts to still find a bluechip prospect in the draft.

This is one of the moves that changes a franchise forever, and kudos to the Jets for pulling this deal off. They were likely battling multiple teams looking to trade up, including the Arizona Cardinals and the Buffalo Bills, who had already traded up to 12th overall.

With a plethora of quarterbacks in the 2018 NFL Draft this year, it’s entirely possible the first three picks, if not the first four, will be quarterbacks. Sam Darnold, Josh Rosen, Baker Mayfield, and Josh Allen are all candidates to go within the top handful of picks, and while the Jets may not get the quarterback of their choice, they must have high grades on several of the prospects this year.

New York also added two quarterbacks in free agency with veteran Josh McCown returning and Teddy Bridgewater coming from Minnesota following a knee dislocation two years ago. Project quarterbacks Christian Hackenberg and Bryce Petty are likely on their way out in the next couple of weeks.

Indianapolis sitting at six now has the opportunity to choose from several major pieces in the first round, including Minkah Fitzpatrick, Bradley Chubb, and Tremaine Edmunds.
