Trey Burton expected to sign with Chicago Bears
NFL Free Agency: Free agent tight end Trey Burton is reportedly expected to sign with the Chicago Bears when the new league year opens on Wednesday…
The Chicago Bears are making moves to surround their young quarterback with as much talent as possible, and have reportedly agreed to terms with free agent tight end Trey Burton.
The Bears had already agreed to a deal overnight with wide receiver Allen Robinson, and now the deal with Burton gives them an even scarier arsenal of weapons for their young quarterback.
NFL Network’s duo of Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo have the details…
Over the past couple of years, the former college quarterback and jack-of-all-trades made a name for himself as a receiver and weapon out of the backfield for the Eagles, but made this money this past season with five touchdown catches as a backup tight end and one of the biggest passes in Super Bowl history.
That’s right.
The man who will be catching passes from Mitchell Trubisky threw the touchdown pass to Nick Foles in this year’s Super Bowl, you’ll recall, and he’ll take that highlight to his grave.

Beyond just that play, Burton has proven himself to be one of the most desirable young players in the league that will move all around the offensive formation. He has the versatility to line up literally anywhere besides the offensive line and will give Chicago a dangerous playmaker to add to their improving arsenal.
We talked already about how Allen Robinson’s presence in the lineup gives the Bears that true number one type of receiver, and adding Burton is going to help draw attention off of Robinson. As I stated when discussing Robinson, I still don’t think the Bears are done adding playmakers to their offense.
In addition to Robinson and Burton, I think we’ll see them add a true slot type of player.
I like what Chicago is doing this offseason hiring Matt Nagy as their head coach and surrounding their young quarterback with talented weapons in the passing game.
