Green Bay Packers: Muhammad Wilkerson set for FA visit
The Green Bay Packers will reportedly host recently released defensive lineman Muhammad Wilkerson for a free agent visit…
Defensive lineman Muhammad Wilkerson might soon be turning in one shade of green for another.
After being officially released by the New York Jets, Wilkerson will reportedly be taking a free agent visit with the Green Bay Packers.
This report originally came from Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
The Green Bay Packers are not usually overly active on the free agent market, so them making a move for Wilkerson is significant.
At 28 years old, Wilkerson is entering probably the prime three or four years of his NFL career. The Packers will likely be able to get him at a good price given all the money remaining on his contract with the Jets, and he will fit in nicely with the core nucleus of defensive linemen the Packers already have in place, starting with Mike Daniels.

The Packers also have 2016 first round pick Kenny Clark at the nose tackle position, so Wilkerson would really given them a nice trio up front.
Of course, this is not a done deal by any means, but the Packers are the first reported visit on Wilkerson’s agenda, and for them to court someone so quickly like this speaks to how much they want him.
The Packers usually make pretty calculated moves in free agency, and this would certainly fit the bill. Since Wilkerson was released by the Jets, signing him to any contract — big or small — will factor into the Packers’ compensatory draft pick formula for 2019.
The Jets were on the hook for $18 million against the cap in 2018 with Wilkerson, and with his production dropping off significantly over the past two seasons, it was a reasonable cap casualty for the Jets despite the huge dead money hit.
Both sides were ready to move on.
Now, we might get to see Wilkerson thrive in a new environment, and Green Bay could be the perfect place for him to revive his career.
