Oklahoma Sooners offensive tackle Orlando Brown had one of the worst Scouting Combine performances we’ve ever seen. How will it affect his draft stock?

One of the biggest and nastiest offensive tackles in the 2018 NFL Draft class is Oklahoma’s Orlando Brown, who checked into the Scouting Combine at 6-foot-8, 345 pounds with 35-inch arms.

There were rumblings that the weigh-in wasn’t the best for Brown, even though at 6-foot-8, 345 pounds is not unreasonable if you are really strong and not overweight. It was apparent with Brown that the weight was not good weight, and he compounded concerns by stating to media: “I’ve been fat my whole life.”

Following Brown’s unimpressive but not unexpected weigh-in, he registered a very disappointing 14 reps on the bench press at 225 pounds.

I understand that offensive linemen with really long arms don’t always excel at the bench press, but for a man of this stature, throwing up a bench press at 225 pounds 20 times or more should be no different than cranking out 20 easy pushups.

That’s just an opinion, but what’s not up for debate is how inexcusable the rest of Brown’s athletic performance was.

He officially ran a 5.85 second 40-yard dash, which is one of the worst times you will ever see, with a 2.00 second 10-yard split.

Yikes.

He also was yelled at by coaches operating the drills for loafing between reps.

Brown posted a 19.5 inch vertical jump as well as a 6-foot-10 inch broad jump.

I’m  telling you — those are historically horrendous numbers.

This was really a bad day for Brown. Athletically, you don’t have to set the world ablaze with a workout at the Scouting Combine, but this is alarming. This looks like a reflection of a complete lack of work and dedication in the weight room, in training, and generally how seriously you take being a professional.

You usually don’t change rankings based on the Scouting Combine, but it can confirm a lot of things you saw on tape. On tape, I generally saw Brown play at a very high level. This, to me, could drop him do the third day of the draft.
