At the 2018 NFL Scouting Combine, Notre Dame left guard Quenton Nelson has already begun impressing with his flawless measurements for the position…

Notre Dame offensive guard Quenton Nelson might be the most highly regarded prospect in the 2018 NFL Draft, and without even stepping onto the field at the 2018 NFL Scouting Combine, he’s impressing coaches and talent evaluators.

Nelson’s measurements are essentially what you would copy and paste for the ideal offensive lineman in today’s NFL, specifically for the left guard position, where he has become a coveted player.

Take a look at these numbers:

There’s nothing not to like about this player.

Nelson is — to me — about as safe of a player as you will find in this year’s draft class. It seems like it’s no coincidence that the Chicago Bears hired his offensive line coach from Notre Dame (Harry Hiestand) and decided to void the final year of starting left guard Josh Sitton’s contract.

More from NFL Mocks

The Bears are going through a youth movement. and if any player makes more sense with their first round pick this year than Nelson, I have yet to see him.

Nelson looks like a true star at the position, capable of dominating for 12-15 years. While at Notre Dame, he exemplified not only great technique, but work ethic, effort on a play-by-play basis, and the nastiness required to be successful on the interior offensive line.

When you look at those measurements, you almost wonder if he couldn’t kick out and play tackle, and perhaps he will follow in the footsteps of another former Fighting Irish lineman in Zack Martin and offer flexibility to play both spots.

It would shock me if this player were drafted outside of the top 10 picks this year. It would shock me if he were allowed to slip by the Chicago Bears, who pick eighth overall. Teams who might stand in the Bears’ way include the Broncos and Jets if they are able to land quarterbacks prior to the start of the draft.
