Nick Foles: Trade Destinations He’d Probably Fit Best
By Erik Lambert
Nick Foles is now likely going to be the latest in a long series of Super Bowl MVPs who cash in by going to another team right after their greatest triumph.
The roller coaster career of the 6’6″ former backup quarterback is one for the record books. He went from backing up Michael Vick to throwing 27 TDs and two interceptions in 10 games in 2013. Then he became a journeyman, returned to the Philadelphia Eagles to back up Carson Wentz and now beat Tom Brady in the Super Bowl. It’s going to be a joy for Hollywood writing that movie script when it’s all said and done.
Now the question moves forward. What will the Eagles do with Foles? There is almost no chance they bench Wentz in favor of him despite his inspired run. Odds are that Howie Roseman, always a fan of wheeling and dealing, will look for the best possible trade opportunity to accumulate more draft assets in exchange for Foles. Given he’s still only 29-years old, the odds of a team jumping at the chance are high. It’s a matter of figuring out where he might fit best.
Here are three destinations that make the most sense.
#1: Arizona Cardinals
This would probably look like the perfect setup from Foles’ perspective. The Arizona Cardinals are desperate for a quarterback and Foles went to college at Arizona. It would be a warm homecoming for him as if fate meant for him to save his home state team from QB purgatory. The Cardinals also have Mike McCoy in charge of the offense now. He’s one of the most respected minds in the league and has familiarity with what the Eagles do, having done a variation during his time in Denver with Tim Tebow.
#2: Buffalo Bills
Right now the team that likely covets Foles the most has to be the Bills. They have the perfect setup. They’re a playoff team whose offense is already steeped heavily in RPO concepts due to Tyrod Taylor being their quarterback. New offensive coordinator Brian Daboll is familiar with that style thanks to his experiences at Alabama and New England. Foles would represent an upgrade over Taylor due to his great size and a stronger arm. A must for that rough western New York weather.

#3: Minnesota Vikings
There may be a hidden advantage that the Vikings have over the other two teams. That’s the fact their offensive coordinator position is currently vacant. This means if they wished to pursue Foles they could basically handpick the coach whom they feel could get the most from his abilities. John DeFilippo may certainly be a possibility given he’ll be a coaching free agent this year. They could also go after Sonny Dykes who was his offensive coordinator at Arizona. There will be plenty of options open to them. The question is are they willing to trade away more pick to get a QB? They know one thing at least. Foles plays well in their building.
