The Chicago Bears have a chance to really become players in the NFC this coming season provided they’re willing to be aggressive.

GM Ryan Pace has his young quarterback in Mitch Trubisky. He has his young, forward-thinking head coach in Matt Nagy. With those two pillars in place, he’s free to be more aggressive this off-season than he has in the past. Could that mean more trades? More spending in free agency? Only time will tell. One thing is for sure. This Bears roster could look a lot different by the time it takes the field again in August. So here’s a peek at what they could do.

Trades:

Josh Sitton to Carolina Panthers for 6th round pick

This is going to be a tough call. Sitton is still a solid guard and might be worth keeping around. At the same time, he’s getting older and is in the last year of his contract. He can’t move like he used to either. The new Bears coaching staff may want somebody a little more springy at guard. So he’s dealt to the guard-needy Panthers for a late round pick.

Dion Sims to Jacksonville Jaguars for 7th round pick

He didn’t produce as hoped but Dion Sims still brought some value to the offense as a blocker and temporary receiver. That said the coaching staff who wanted him is gone. His price likely isn’t viewed the same way anymore. With Adam Shaheen likely to get a much bigger role in the offense, a more traditional team like the Jaguars could find a use for his skills.

Jonathan Bullard to Dallas Cowboys for 5th round pick

At this point, the waiting for Bullard has become tiresome. He showed a couple flashes of improvement in 2017 but still hasn’t unlocked that ability that made him so tantalizing at Florida. Part of the problem is he might not be playing a position that fits his skill set. He’s much more an interior pass rushing defensive tackle type. Dallas is a great landing spot for him.

New salary cap:  $55.3 million
