Nicknamed “The Joker” at Texas, Junior DeShon Elliott was a versatile safety that was a force for the Longhorns defense during his breakout 2017 season.
After nabbing six interceptions for Texas Longhorns, junior safety DeShon Elliott was named consensus All-American (unanimous) as well as a semifinalist for the Jim Thorpe Award in 2017.
The 6’2″ 210 lb. safety was used as a versatile defensive back as a deep coverage safety as well as a blitzing box safety near the line of scrimmage.
According to Pro Football Focus, Elliott had the 2nd most plays around the ball with 13 as an active defender against the pass and the run.
Deshon Elliott showed production at his three years at Texas and has the skills to be a free or strong safety in the NFL.
In 2015-2016, Elliott played 14 games had 42 total tackles, three tackles for loss, one sack, three interceptions, four pass deflections, and two fumbles recovered combined. In 2017 however, Elliott played 12 games as the starter and outperformed his freshman and sophomore years statistically as a junior. As a junior, Elliott had 63 total tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, six interceptions with two touchdowns, three forced fumbles with one fumble recovery, and seven pass deflections.
