2018 Senior Bowl: NC State’s B.J. Hill stock on the rise
2018 Senior Bowl: North Carolina State defensive lineman B.J. Hill is a player on the rise after day two of the Senior Bowl. He showed out in a big way…
The 2018 Senior Bowl has some very strong battles going on between the offensive and defensive linemen on the North roster, and one player that is standing out through the first two days is North Carolina State’s B.J. Hill.
Hill is in Mobile along with a couple of his other NC State teammates (including fellow defensive lineman Justin Jones), and has been putting on a show on the interior defensive line.
He’s standing out to the scouts, coaches, and executives in attendance in a variety of ways.
Hill’s power and quickness on day two were evident, particularly in one-on-ones where he was dominant against every lineman he faced, except for one battle with Will Hernandez that ended up being a classic case of unstoppable force meets immovable object.
Hill showed off his power and leverage, but it was the quickness he had on one particular rep in one-on-ones where he spun around and avoided the offensive lineman without even being touched.
You don’t see that often.

It’s been a great showing for Hill, who racked up 23.5 tackles for loss and 183 tackles in total in his career as a member of the Wolfpack.
When you look at the talent across the board on this year’s defensive line group coming out of NC State (which includes a possible top 10 pick in Bradley Chubb) you wonder why they weren’t competing late in the season for a shot at the college football playoff.
This is the type of player that could develop into something special in the NFL. The way he uses his hands, his power, and tenacity when the ball is live are all traits of a successful defensive tackle.
I could see Hill succeeding from the three technique on in, and possibly kicking outside to play some four and five technique if need be. His workout at the Combine will be more of a clear indicator what kind of athleticism he has laterally, but he looks like an explosive, disruptive interior player up close and personal.
