Baker Mayfield

First and foremost, Mayfield arrived to practice on-time after being delayed in his initial arrival to Senior Bowl festivities. It was revealed that Mayfield was dealing with a family matter in Austin, Texas, and while he shouldn’t have had to explain himself to anyone, he was criticized for missing the ‘all-important’ weigh-in.

Many — wrongly and stupidly — assumed he strategically did not attend the weigh-in to avoid talk of his being too short or having too small of hands.

Mayfield made it to the practice and came out looking like a leader right away. Not only was Mayfield going 100 percent on every single rep he was given, he was running between drills and taking reps with an invisible ball between his actual reps to get down the mental and physical rhythm of what he was being coached on.

There was no wasted time on the field for Mayfield, who also showed off all of the different ways he can beat you with his arm. He made throws with good anticipation, he made accurate throws with some pressure, and he showed off his arm strength as well as his ability to drop the ball in a bucket downfield with some touch.

There were also times when Mayfield was inconsistent, and threw his ball behind receivers or didn’t lead them properly. Mayfield also struggled a couple of times with the exchange of the ball when he would line up under center.

Overall, I thought Mayfield had a good practice, but it wasn’t anything earth shattering from the perspective of looking at each individual rep. I just thought it was a good day for him as a whole.
